Steve Gunnell, President

Executive Board Member


The responsibilities of the LNGS President include the following:

  • Oversees the appointment of board members and all league related activities (Note that all appointments are subject to final approval by the LNGS board of directors.)
  • Maintains contact with USA Softball
  • Represents the league in relationships with other organizations
  • Understands the USA Softball regulations under which LNGS operates
  • Presides at league meetings, and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of LNGS
  • Receives all mail, supplies and other communications from USA Softball and other leagues
  • Presides over team drafts with the Player Representative
  • The President will take on the role of Player Representative if the position is vacant

Vince Carpino, Vice President and Tournament Director

The responsibilities of the Vice President include the following:

  • Presides in the absence of the President
  • Works with other officers and committee members
  • Ex-officio member of all committees
  • Carries out such duties and assignments as may be delegated by the President

Tracy Gaitley, Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer

Executive Board Member


The responsibilities of the Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer include the following:

  • Signs checks co-signed by another officer or director (or as directed by the local league's constitution.
  • Dispenses league funds as approved by the Board of Directors
  • Reports on the status of league funds
  • Maintains local league books and financial records
  • Prepares budgets
  • Assumes responsibility for all local league finances

Jamie Sutton, Secretary and Communications Director

The responsibilities of the Secretary include the following:

  • Records the minutes of meetings
  • Schedules and sends out notice of meetings
  • Issues membership cards and maintains a record of league's activities
  • Checks the LNGS mailbox on a weekly basis

The responsibilities of the Communications Director include the following:

  • Works with the Social Media Director
  • Drafts and sends league e-mails
  • Ensures league news is updated on a regular basis
  • Collects, posts, and distributes important information regarding league activities

Jessica Dentone, Scheduling & City Liaison

The responsibilities of the Scheduling & City Liaison include the following:

  • Works with the UIC, City Liaison, and division representatives to finalize schedules:
    • Schedules Fall & Spring season practices and games
    • Schedules All Stars practices
    • Schedules Pumpkin Tournament games
    • Schedules Sea Country all stars tournament games
  • Acts as a liaison between clinic coaches, City of Laguna Niguel and Board of Directors to schedule skills clinics

Tim Karle, Field Manager

The responsibilities of the Field Manager include the following:

  • Coordinates all field maintenance and preparation for games and practices and oversees the maintenance and care of all league fields
  • Inventories all field supplies and submits inventory to the Board at the beginning of the season and maintains proper supplies in the facility storage bins for proper field setup
  • Reports all dangerous and adverse field conditions to the City of Laguna Niguel and issue communication as necessary
  • Holds a field preparation training clinic at the beginning of every season for team field prep volunteers
  • Maintains the relationship with the City of Laguna Niguel for field maintenance and improvements

Eric Chiasson, Umpire in Chief

The responsibilities of the Umpire in Chief include the following:

  • Provides umpire training
  • Schedules umpires in accordance with the league needs during spring and fall seasons
  • Schedules umpires for tournaments hosted by LNGS
  • Provides input on rule changes
  • Responsible for rule enforcement
  • Works closely with the scheduling official to ensure fairness to avoid scheduling conflicts
  • Works closely with division reps and coaches to ensure all rules and rule changes are clearly understood

Ben Coury, 6/8U Rep

The 6/8U Rep responsibilities include the following:

  • Selects coaches with final approval by the Board of Directors and assists in the organization and execution of player evaluations and team formation
  • Conducts coaches meeting for the division at the start of each season to discuss rules, policies, procedures and coaches conduct; conducts additional meetings throughout the season as needed to discuss information needing action
  • Acts as a liaison between coaches of their division and the Coaches Representative and/or Player Representative on any disputes or player issues
  • Reviews schedules pertaining to the division to ensure fairness and accuracy
  • Represents the League in any inter-city meetings as requested by the Board of Directors

Lidia Corey, Web Master/Information Director

The responsibilities of the Web Master/Information Director include the following:

  • Works with the Social Media Director
  • Manages and updates the web site
  • Manages information for the league's home page
  • Ensures league news is updated on a regular basis
  • Collects, posts, and distributes important information regarding league activities

Ryan Vogt-Lowell, Registrar

The responsibilities of the Registrar include the following:

  • Player, USA Softball, and All Stars Registration
  • Maintains league and player insurance
  • Creates and maintains a detailed master list of all LNGS registered players
  • Assists in creating rosters for drafted teams

Sophie Mayo, Events & Fundraising Coordinator

The Events & Fundraising Coordinator's responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for all of the league's fundraising efforts and events
  • Works with the Information Director, Tournament Director and Team Parent Coordinator to plan and execute fundraising activities
  • Solicits and secures local sponsorships to support league operations
  • Collects and reviews sponsorship and fundraising opportunities
  • Organizes and implements approved league fundraising activities
  • With assistance from the Board of Directors, organizes volunteers and oversees events such as:
    • Opening Day
    • Home Run Derby
    • Photo Day
    • Angels Night
    • Movie Night
    • Closing Day
  • Other events approved by the Board of Directors

Danai Dumas, Snack Bar Coordinator

The responsibilities of the Snack Bar Coordinator include the following:

  • Oversees all snack bar operations
  • Purchases necessary equipment and supplies
  • Coordinates volunteers with assistance from the Team Parent Coordinator.  Usually using a Signup app
  • Documents and reports all purchases, sales and disbursements to the league Treasurer
  • Provides monthly reports to the Board of Directors
  • Develops an operating budget with the assistance of the Treasurer
  • Provides the Treasurer with money from the snack bar to deposit into the league account
  • Accounts for and safeguards all cash and receipts and provides them to Treasurer
  • Coordinates Snack Bar operations at all League functions and tournaments unless arranged otherwise
  • Maintains Snack Bar standards within the Health Code

OPEN, 12/14U Rep

The 12/14U Rep responsibilities include the following:

The 10U Rep responsibilities include the following:

Open, Team Parent & Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator

The responsibilities of the Team Parent & Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator include the following:

  • Coordinates with President, Vice President and Secretary to distribute information to the team parents of all divisions
  • Returns information to appropriate board members and representatives.; this may involve league documents and money
  • Provides the Team Parents with a pre-season packet with all documents required to begin the season
  • Coordinates all Team Parent duties
  • Schedules parents to work their volunteer duty using a sign-up app
  • Provides the BOD with a log of parents who have fulfilled their volunteer duty

Open, Uniform Coordinator

The responsibilities of the Uniform Coordinator include the following:

  • Budgets and orders uniforms, visors and socks for league players and staff
  • Performs minor uniform repairs
  • Works with the Team Parent Coordinator to distribute and collect uniforms to teams
  • Orders league spirit wear and manages sales on opening day and during spring and fall season

Open, Equipment Coordinator

The responsibilities of the Equipment Coordinator include the following:

  • Manages budgeting, purchase and inventory of all League equipment and used for playing,  and repair as allowed by the budget guidelines with Board approval
  • Oversees the distribution and return of equipment to each team ensuring all equipment is in safe and appropriate condition and team bags are equipped with First Aid Kits and rule books

OPEN, Player Representative

The responsibilities of the Player Representative include the following:

  • Schedules and oversees player clinics
  • Works with division representatives to oversee player evaluation
  • Assists the President in conducting player draft
  • Confirms eligibility of players
  • Supervises and coordinates the transfer of players from one division to the other
  • Handles player complaints regarding coaches and involve the Board of Directors as necessary

OPEN, Social Media Director

* Non-voting position. 

The responsibilities of the Social Media Director  include the following:

  • Manages and updates social media
  • Collects, organizes, and stores photos from league families for use on the web site
  • Assists the Web Master as necessary

Mike Kashima, CHAMPs Coordinator

* Non-voting position. 

The responsibilities of the CHAMPs Coordinator include the following:

  • Coordinates the CHAMPs coaching staff
  • Coordinates the CHAMPs schedule
  • Ensures that a team is set up to play with the CHAMPs each week
  • Ensures that the CHAMPs equipment is available for use

Open, Tournament Director

The responsibilities of the Tournament Director include the following:

  • Plans and organizes tournaments  including:
    • Mid Season Tournament (Spring)
    • End of Season Tournament (Spring)
    • Sea Country Classic (All Stars)
    • Pumpkin Tournament (Fall)
    • Any additional tournaments as determined by the Board of Directors
  • Coordinates volunteers or assigns a volunteer coordinator

The LNGS Board of Directors (BOD) meets on a monthly basis to conduct league business  and votes to appoint new members during the September Annual meeting.   If you have any questions about a position, please send an e-mail to lagunaniguelfastpitch@gmail.com for information.
