Fall Ball Information

The Fall Ball season generally starts at the end of August with games starting after Labor Day. The season usually ends in November the week before Thanksgiving.

Fall Ball is comprised of two separate programs:

  • Fall Recreational ($65 for 6U and $150 for 8U and up)
  • Fall Select ($250 for 8U and up)

Both programs involve playing teams from other leagues, but each offers a different level of competition and commitment from the girls.

Note:  During Fall, we HIGHLY encourage players to move up to their Spring division to get some experience with any new equipment or rule changes.  If your player is moving to the next age division in Spring of 2019, she should "play up" to that division during this Fall season (for example if your player is a 2nd year 8U, moving to 10U in spring, she should play 10U Fall Ball now).  

Select players must play in the division that they will be playing in the following Spring season.


This program is competitive, but has less intensity and weekly time commitment compared to the Select program and does not require an invitation from a coach. 

  • Fall ball includes all divisions - now including 6U too!
  • Practices: Once per week. At times an additional non-mandatory practice could be scheduled, i.e. batting cages.
  • Games: 1 game every Sunday
  • Timing: Practices begin in August, with games running September through November.
  • Tournaments: No tournaments generally scheduled, but there may be an end of season tournament.
  • Competitiveness: Teams are represented from the southern USA Softball leagues.
  • Fall Ball Rec is competitive, but offers girls with other commitments to be able to participate.
  • Selection Process: There are no "evaluations" during Fall Ball at this time.


Note:  Select players are required to play in the division that they will be playing in the following Spring season.

The Fall Select program is highly competitive with a greater time commitment required. There will be an emphasis in select to have the players play in their spring 2019 age specific division.  Players must be selected by the Select team coach and the selection process is completely at the coaches discretion.  If your player is not selected, she will be placed on a recreational team.  If your player is selected by the Select coach, there will be an additional charge of $100 to cover additional field time and tournaments.

Fall Ball Select teams generally include:

  • 8U Gold
  • 8U Silver
  • 10U Gold
  • 10U Silver
  • 12U Gold
  • 12U Silver
  • 14U Gold

Fall Ball Select:

  • Practices: 2-3 per week
  • Games: 2 games (double-header) every Sunday. They can be in Laguna Niguel or any of the other Select leagues' locations.
  • Timing: Practices begin in August, with games running September through November.
  • Tournaments: Pumpkin Classic in October and Turkey Tournament in November.
  • Competitiveness: The age divisions are divided into a Gold (A) and a Silver (B).   Most players will have previously played All-Stars.
  • Selection Process: Coaches will "select" girls from the spring rec league. Due to the limited number of teams, not all girls will be "selected." If you are not selected, your daughter will be placed on a recreational team.

Fall Ball General Information

  • Schedule & Rules - The game schedule is managed by the Orange County Fall Ball Federation, a group of local leagues including ours, which collaborates on the rules and schedules for Fall Ball.  We do not control the schedule.  As there is some movement between teams in the Gold and Silver select divisions after the mid-season, the remainder of the schedule is not finalized until that point.  This Federation also collaborates on the rules that will be in effect for the season.  The rules can be found on the following site. 
  • Field Lights - Based on an agreement with the City of Laguna Niguel and the neighboring communities we are limited in the use of lights for our fields at NHMS, as the soccer leagues are allowed lights in the Fall and softball is allowed lights in the Spring. 
  • Snack bar – Since Fall Ball has fewer home games and teams than in Spring, we will look to open the snack bar only on game days when we will have a sufficient amount of home games at our fields.  We will be reaching out for any volunteer support for these days to help with the snack bar, which is fun for the kids and an important source of revenue for the league, which allows us to keep our registration fees low.
  • Field reminders – Rules from Laguna Niguel and Niguel Hills Middle School.
    1. Please do not go to the back-parking lot at Niguel Hills until after 4:30PM on school days, even if the gate is open.
    2. Please no dogs at the fields.
